Solar Incentives
Federal Investment Tax Credit
The investment tax credit (ITC), allows you to deduct 26 percent of the cost of installing a solar energy system from your federal taxes. The ITC applies to both residential and commercial systems, and there is no cap on its value. Remember this tax credit is at the federal level, meaning it’s additional to any incentives, rebates, or tariffs applied at the state or local level.
California Solar Incentives
Golden State residents have access to a wide variety of rebate programs. Depending on what county you are in, you may be eligible for rebates up to $500 or $0.95 cents per watt of installed capacity, or even utility providers paying for your permit fees. Refer to Energy Sage for breakdowns by ZIP code.
Texas Solar Incentives
Texas doesn’t have statewide tax credits or rebates for solar, but many utilities and local governments offer specific rebates for going Solar. Austin Energy, CPS Energy, City of Sunset Valley, Garland Power and Light, and Guadalupe Valley EC all offer rebates and/or solar tariffs for homeowners in their service areas.
Net Metering
California Net Metering
Net metering is considered one of the largest reasons to go solar in California. Any homeowner in California who uses solar is eligible to receive “Renewable energy credits” for generating more power than they are using. These credits are valued at the retail rate for your utility and can be applied to save bills when your power use exceeds your solar capacity, or sold to your energy provider for cash. Texas Net Metering
Though Texas doesn’t have statewide net metering, many utilities have policies that credit solar homeowners for energy their panels produce. If your provider has a net metering policy, you will receive credit off your bill in months where your solar panels are not providing enough energy to meet your use.
Other Benefits
California PACE Solar Financing
The Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) or Home Energy Renovation Opportunity (HERO) programs allow California homeowners to finance their Solar installation and pay it back through property taxes. There are also many county specific programs with similar incentives. Ask us about what financing options work best for you.
Texas Solar Rights Law
If you live in a neighborhood with a homeowners association, you don’t need to worry about their rules and regulations stopping your from going solar. The Texas solar rights law prevents HOAs from banning solar systems on their properties.
Other California Incentives
California has many state and county level incentives for homeowners and businesses, many of which can be applied together. Let our professionals work with you to find the most affordable way to accomplish your solar project.
Texas Renewable Energy Tax Exemption
Like many modifications to your home, installing a solar energy system will increase your homes value (By up to 4% compared to homes without solar) but it won’t increase your property tax. The state of Texas passed exemption from extra taxes as a result of value added to a home by solar panels.
